If you were lucky enough to get your hands on anything from Lilly for Target- hats off to you. I was so bummed I missed out on everything on my wishlist. I may have shed a tear. One of my favorite items was this fringe cover up but since these were snatched up I decided I could make a similar one. Kimonos are great because they are open leaving room for an expanding belly and give easy access for nursing. And I loved it paired with this swimsuit from Lime Ricki. They have such cute swimsuit patterns, are modest (especially in the chest area) and fit really well- sucking in everything just right.
For those of you that like to DIY (my sould sisters!) here is how I made my cover up. Wear with a swimsuit or wear over a tee. I seriously love versatility in my clothing pieces.
Time: 30 min (or less) Cost: $7.73 + crazy WA sales tax
*I am 5’0 so I don’t need as much fabric so if you are taller you may want to use 1.5-2 yards of fabric and trim.*
1.25 yds White Fringe Trim (similar)
1.25 yds White Cotton Gauze or cotton knit (better choice so you don’t have to sew edges- ha!)
2. Fold in half.
3. Cut through top layer ONLY to the fold. If you are using knit then you don’t need to sew the edges. I sewed my seams since I used cotton gauze.
4. Turn to wrong sides facing each other. I measured 15 inches up from the bottom and pinned to mark it on both left and right side. Then pin the fringe with the fringe sides sticking outside of the fabric.
5. Sew the fringe on the single layer and go all the way around. Then sew the bottom (both layers) from bottom of fringe to the end.
6. Turn inside out so the right sides are out again.

Can I just say how awesome their customer service is as well? If you order a suit that doesn’t fit quite right just send it back! I would suggest ordering several sizes if you are unsure and then just sending back the one that doesn’t work. I wasn’t sure if I should order my normal size or size up. I talked to someone at Lime Ricki and they suggested to size up. So the top is a S and the bottom is an XS (everything on my body grows except my booty- seriously considering butt implants- haha!!) And I really love how it actually fits my non existent butt. No one wants a saggy bottom…ugh story of my life but not with these! Another plus, it really fits on the chest which is awesome when your boobs hurt all the time. TMI. Kind of sorry.
