I am having so much fun sharing with you guys these small projects I am working on to make my master bedroom the perfect place for rest and relaxation. I hate to admit this but my family and I are just not morning people. We specifically chose the afternoon program for our kids last year because we just like to take it easy in the mornings. Now that my son has a normal school schedule we have to go to bed at a reasonable hour since we have to be up so dang early in the mornings. I am already exhausted and it’s only the first day!
Being a work at home mom/stay at home mom (who knows what I am since my hours vary by day!) I have about a million things running through my head every night. Usually it is in list form of what chores I need to take care of tomorrow, ways I can be a fun and efficient Mom, blog posts that would be super awesome, collaborations I want to work on, new print/stationery designs for my shop and if and when I could squeeze in a nap. And by nap I really mean just sit down and do absolutely nothing for a few minutes. Most mornings I wake up super tired because my brain just won’t stop and with an ache where my earrings have dented my head. Seriously, why can’t I remember to just take off the dang things? So simple but I really just want to snuggle up in bed and doze off. Laziness at its finest. So, as I was decorating my night stand I figured I needed something to hold my earrings or any other jewelry I had forgotten to take off before bed.
I saw this awesome tutorial and was inspired to try it with spray paint. What can’t you do with a little spray paint? I had these cute vintage plates that I was going to get rid of because I just have way too many dishes- but the hoarder in me knew they could be good for something. Thank you little plates for being the perfect guinea pigs to my marbled jewelry holder attempt.
White Spray Paint (2 colors)
Disposable Dish ( I like to keep these on hand for various projects)
Disposable Gloves ( I like to keep these on hand for various projects)
Newspaper to work on
What to do:
Spray paint the plate white (or another solid color) to start with a blank canvas
Pour 1 cup of water in dish
Spray water about 2-3 times with lavender (or color of choice). Dip plate right away or paint will get stringy.
With gloves, dip plate in quickly. I opted for a minimal marble touch so I just did one side.
I left it to dry overnight before I placed it on my nightstand but it actually dries pretty quickly.
A little touch of marble is the perfect touch. It is so simple- and cheap! Can’t get better than that!
I wouldn’t mind finding these on my jewelry holder either:
