Do you ever wonder about how you can be a better spouse, mother, friend or person in general? I sure do. All. The. Time. There are a lot of things I can improve on and some things I think I am pretty good at (not to sound high and mighty). I love talking to people about what’s going on in their lives, whether they are experiencing trials or enjoying a time of bliss. We can all relate to each other on those high and low moments and share experiences to help and strengthen our relationships.
After perusing the FamilyShare website, I thought it was a wonderful place where a group of friends could sit, chat, give support and offer advice on different aspects of life. One thing that has been on my mind lately is Mother’s Day (this Sunday!). I am a mom to 3; my mom one to 5. My mother-in-law is one to 11. We all are different and have different personalities with different rearing perspectives. I also have friends who have lost babies, can’t have children, have adopted, are foster parents, or aren’t married yet. I thought about how hard this day must be for some of them. But Mother’s Day isn’t only for Mothers in the exact definition. Motherhood comes in different ways and celebrated differently. Recently when I read When Mother’s Day Isn’t Rosy, I was reminded of ways we can all embrace this holiday. We all have mothers or mother-like figures we look up to. I adore my mother and also look up to my grandmothers and aunts. They have all influenced me my whole life. I am excited to be celebrating this Mother’s Day with them. I have also been positively influenced by my church leaders and teachers who have treated me and guided me like a mother would. I will celebrate and honor their role as a Mother to me.
I also read 3 Tips for Celebrating Mother’s Day as a Single Mom. I hadn’t even thought about that circumstance! Maybe we can all take some time to acknowledge those that have the job of 2 parents and help their kids show them how much they are appreciated. The role of a Mother comes in all different shapes and sizes but all to be honored and remembered.
To all you women out there, Happy Mother’s Day! Let us honor those women around us and their roles in the lives of their loved ones and our own.
