With all the hustle and bustle that comes with this time of the year, traveling back and forth between family and friends adds to the craziness. Because packing up and spending all day with family isn’t anything new, we have become pros (almost) at packing overnight bags that include everything from favorite blankies to diapers to toothbrushes. We have 3 children 5 and under and 2 of them (sometimes 3) are still in diapers or overnight pull-ups. We also spend almost every weekend with family so packing an overnight bag is a must- even though we rarely stay over. For us, getting the kids ready for bed before putting them in the car to drive back home is essential to a peaceful night and getting through the holidays without getting too stressed out.
I remember my sister in law brought her overnight bag and got her kids ready for bed before packing them in the car to get home. It was so simple and yet so genius. Since that time 4 years ago I have followed suit. Most of the time the kids fall asleep in the car and do you really want to wake them up to get them ready for bed? I mean you could just leave them in their clothes and not brush their teeth but that’s not comfortable….or hygienic. So here is my tip to having a stress-free (or close to) as you transition from home to car back to home.
Packing an Overnight Bag- What to bring:
– Any special toy/blanket to help them fall asleep and keep them warm when transferring out of the car
– Toothbrush and toothpaste
– Diapers/Pull-ups and wipes
– Extra onesies or undershirts (sometimes they get all messy during the day and I feel bad keeping them in messy clothes while they sleep)
– Rash cream, Tylenol (for fevers or teething), etc.
– Bottles, sippy cups, etc.
I use this Vera Bradley bag because it is surprisingly big enough to fit all of my kids’ stuff but not this huge bulky bag that takes up too much room. And my diaper bag isn’t big enough to hold all that stuff nor would I want to lug that bag overflowing with bedtime stuff.
Sometimes, with all the madness of getting all the stuff ready for a day out I forget even the most important of things…like diapers or pull-ups! Seriously, it is something we use multiple times daily and I forget to throw in my son’s pull up. Do I really want to chance an accident on the way home? Now we have a CVS near our home that we can just quickly stop in and get diapers and other stuff we may have forgotten. It’s a quick in and out compared to other stores where it sucks you in as you frantically search for your important items. I’ve tried other brands of diapers because I hate buying more diapers when I already have some at home but I’ll spend the extra couple of dollars for reliability and gentleness.
My kids have very sensitive skin and I only use Pampers diapers and Pampers Sensitive wipes. It is worth the price and I have rarely ever been disappointed in the quality. And the key to having a stress free holiday is to be prepared…but in case you aren’t, you can rely on them to help you out. And….. I hope to help you out with a fun giveaway of a package of diapers and wipes to get you through the rest of the holidays. All you have to do is go to my Instagram account and follow me and leave me a tip on how you guys get through the holidays on this post! If you don’t have an Instagram account, just leave a comment on this post. I will pick a winner January 1st! Good luck!
So, here I go again, preparing my overnight bag for the 4th time this week. Crazy but I love it and love spending all this time with family and friends. Have a wonderful holiday!
