We are counting down the days and are officially in single digits people. Like 5 days. 5! And we are basking in the time we have left as a family of 5. We can already see the behavioral changes in our kids (some not so good) and are trying to ease their uncertainty of a new member in our family by going on several little adventures with them. Any positive attention is helpful at this point- even if it is just a trip to get some frozen yogurt. And just as the countdown number is decreasing, my discomfort with a plump belly, flattened bladder and insomnia filled days/nights are only increasing.
What helps you ask? Not much takes all that mumbo jumbo away, but Benadryl helps a bit with insomnia and this tank from Blanqi alleviates most of that lower back and lower abdominal discomfort. While it was a little to hot for me to wear in the East Coast humidity, it was perfect in the mild weather here in Seattle. I wore it under shirts or layered it with a button down shirt because of the great support it gave my belly. Without it I felt like gravity was my enemy and it was taking me down, literally. Like my skin felt pulled and stretched down- it is an awful feeling.
Anyway, back to the fun stuff. I try to do everything I can to not be in pain because that makes me more pleasant to be around. And usually getting away from the house (and leaving the mess behind!) puts me in a good mood. There is this cool little zoo in Issaquah called Cougar Mountain Zoo where- you guessed it- it has cougars! And tigers. It is pretty small but they have these awesome encounters opportunities where they feed the tigers and cougars pretty close to you- for free. I mean, I was feet away from a Bengal Tiger as it was feasting on raw meat. The boys in our family (husband included) have a fascination with tigers so they definitely soaked up that moment. And of course, we can’t forget our cougars! Coincidentally, our beloved Cougars (BYU!) were playing a game so we had to show them some support. What beautiful animals!
After learning some fun facts about tigers at home, it was awesome to see all those lessons click for Ashton. He knew so much and loved telling us all about this and that type of tiger. It was a beautiful day- we took it easy, didn’t rush and just enjoyed each others’ company. This coming weekend will be our last hoorah as a family of 5 but we really cannot wait to add another little Bird to our group!
